Paris of the 1920s saw an explosion of artistic energy that resulted in some of humanitys greatest works of art, literature, music, and dance. Today these works are collectively known as Modernism. Gertrude Stein famously dubbed the diverse group of English-speaking expatriates living and working in Paris after World War I the "Lost Generation." This moniker has become somewhat of an irony or misnomer, for as literary and artistic trailblazers they seem to have been anything but lost. However, after being completely transformed by the horrors of World War I and becoming spiritually and artistically alienated from their home countries, these expatriates may have felt lost in a fragmented world that no longer made sense.

The great names of the Lost Generation include Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein, John Dos Passos, E.E. Cummings, T.S. Eliot, Archibald MacLeish, Cole Porter, Hart Crane, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, and many more.

Discover the real Midnight in Paris with this smart GPS navigation app. Whether vacationing in Paris or at a stateside university, the Lost Generation app will help you uncover the world of this amazing group of artists and intellectuals.
